The Main Disadvantages of Internet Learning

Online learning is becoming a way in which many people are obtaining their degrees. Most people point out just how convenient and flexible learning online is. Though there are advantages for many people, there are still some disadvantages that people should consider before they venture into earning their degree online.

One of the biggest disadvantages is that the one-on-one interaction that students get in traditional classrooms cannot be found in online classrooms. Though the person can take the opportunity to communicate with their peers and teacher through email and so forth, they still miss the actually talking. In addition, most people point out that since this is an online class, they do not get the chance to develop those public speaking techniques that may be needed in the working world.

Secondly, since the online class is more flexible as to when the person can do the homework and assignments, they may find that they develop a sense of procrastination that they did not help before. Because the person must be very disciplined, many people find that they simply cannot succeed without the stricter environments of traditional classrooms.

Online classes can also be much harder for those that are used to traditional classrooms. The reason is that these classes require much more technology, those that are not very inept in technology, they are not going to find much luck. In addition, online classes may require more written papers than typical classes in much shorter time periods, which means that the workload may be almost double.

Many of those that attend online classes may find that they feel isolated. They may feel as if they are the only ones having problems with learning the material since there is no other students that they can talk to about the problem that they are having, like after class at many traditional classrooms. Though the student can email the other students in the classroom, they may feel as if they are stuck with no where to go because they do not want to feel as if they are less smart than the other students in the class.

There is tons of freedom for those students that take online classes, however, this freedom can be a dangerous thing if the person cannot handle it. The professor is not going to call you to remind you that an assignment is due, nor or they going to remind the person that they have not turned an assignment in. They will also not force the material onto the student, so it is up to the student to learn the material on their own without being pushed by the instructor. This is a huge problem for many students who are just not ready for such freedom. And because of this many people fail online classes.

Before the student automatically starts taking online classes, they should consider that there are disadvantages involved with online classes that the student must be aware of in order to make sure that they succeed and can handle the load. For more information on online education visit bgiedu.net.
